Rent

About the Show

Jonathan Larson's musical Rent became a defining work of modern musical theatre with its electrifying rock score and deeply personal story of love, loss, and resilience. Set in New York City's East Village during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, the musical follows a year in the lives of a group of young artists and musicians determined to pursue their dreams while facing poverty, addiction, illness, and uncertain futures. Featuring unforgettable songs including "Seasons of Love", "La Vie Bohème", and "Take Me or Leave Me", Rent is one of the most influential and beloved musicals of the modern era.

Inspired by Puccini's La Bohème, Rent follows Mark, Roger, and Mimi as they search for hope amid hardship. Collins and Angel discover love and acceptance in one another, while Maureen and Joanne struggle to sustain a passionate but turbulent relationship. Meanwhile, Benny's decision to trade his bohemian ideals for financial success drives a wedge between him and his former friends. Through their intertwined stories, Rent celebrates friendship, compassion, and choosing to measure life in love.

Rent won won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Musical, and to this day it remains one of the longest-running shows on Broadway.
